Dear Sid (Suburbiludes, Rapid Eye Movements)
A new track by Fffirst Time created in response to an exhibition at Sid Motion Gallery
Dear Sid,
Hope you’re really well!
I was beyond delighted to think or should I say dream about your exhibition Rapid Eye Movements. Thank you so much for thinking of me to write something for it.

Now Jack and I — as Fffirst Time — have written something else in response to the exhibition, ‘Suburbiludes’.
As I was writing the exhibition text, I got stuck on the idea of making a surreal audioguide, which would start in the gallery and quickly take the listener elsewhere.
Meanwhile, I’d been listening to this song Jack sent me called suburbilude and I wanted to write some suburbiludes of my own. It’s great writing in genres that don’t exist yet, because no-one has set the bar. I sent Jack an early draft of my exhibition text, which had a line on Morgan Wills’s Path — ‘why are the trees so close together?’ — and we ran with it, right down the titular path.
The other paintings from Rapid Eye Movements ‘turn up’ in ‘Suburbiludes’ too, I feel, but in more discreet ways.
In any case, congrats again on a great show. Looking forward to seeing the next one!
All best,
Sammi
